Hoop Playshops led by Siena Moon Hoops

Friday, July 29     12-1pm
Hoop Playshop:  Foundations of Hoop Dance
This hour-long beginner’s playshop will introduce the art of hoop dance and cover basic moves that will build a solid foundation for your practice.  Many of the moves covered in this class will be building blocks for fancier & flashier tricks down the road in your journey within the circle.

Some of the moves covered in this workshop will include basic waist hooping, getting comfortable hooping in both directions, angled waist hooping (earth & sky angles), barrel rolls, walking and turning with the hoop, stalls, antispin, basic hand hooping, lasso & stirring the pot, and passes.  Our class will end with a jam where you’ll have time to work on your new moves and flow at your own pace

Some extra hoops will be available but please bring your own if you have one! Bigger hoops are recommended (38”-42” diameter) as they are easier to learn with for beginners, but they are not required.

Saturday, July 30     11-12pm
Hoop Playshop:  Tosses!
In this hour-long all levels playshop we will learn some sweet and creative ways to throw the hoop in the air and catch it gracefully.  The unexpected element of tosses can add punch and excitement to your flow and is sure to impress your friends!

Some of the different moves we will cover include tosses on the vertical plane, elbow tosses, over the shoulder tosses, tuck tosses, behind the back tosses, turning tosses, under the leg tosses, and everyone’s favorite – pizza tosses!  Our class will end with a jam where you’ll have time to work on your new moves and flow at your own pace.

Some extra hoops will be available but please bring your own if you have one!

About Siena Moon Hoops: Siena Moon has had a passion for performing since childhood.  She grew up in a suburb south of Boston and participated in dance, gymnastics and cheerleading throughout her youth.  After college, she attended a music festival where she saw hoop dance for the first time, and she was hooked.  She bought a hoop as soon as she got home from the trip, and the rest is history.

Now residing in Boston, Siena works in the construction industry by day while spending most time pursuing her passions at night.  You can find her at music festivals in the New England area rocking out with a hoop on grassy concert fields during the warmer months.

Her current endeavors include a daily hoop practice, developing poi technique, training for aerial dance (silks in particular) and practicing anusara & vinyasa flow yoga.  When she’s not practicing, performing, or at a live show she enjoys spending time with her puggle Josie, crafting, and making hoops.  She enjoys learning new things everyday within herself and from the inspiring people around her in Boston’s creative community.

In February of 2011 she took the next step in her creative path by undergoing teacher training to share her love of the hoop via classes & workshops.  She became a certified Hoop Instructor through Circles of Joy Hoopdance & Poi and plans to teach workshops throughout the summer during her travels.
