Self-described as high performance rock 'n' roll, RAQ has been going strong since its 2001 inception. With their unique sound, featuring complex song structure coupled with quirky-yet-accessible lyrics and a healthy dose of full-band improvisation, RAQ delivers a strong presence to their allegiant fans nationwide.

Dynamic, scene-setting electronic youngsters Pnuma Trio have been known for their forward-thinking compositions and moving, powerful improvisations since their explosion onto the scene in 2004. Not so young anymore, Ben Hazelgrove, Alex Botwin, and Lane Shaw have taken a new approach with a refined, glitch-informed electro/hip-hop feel and still maintain all the dynamic energy of their DJ-killing live show. This new style represents a significantly evolved version of Pnuma's futuristic sound; tighter, more focused, and higher resolution. The long synth solos have been replaced by careful layering; instead of building each song to it's climax the band percolates on hot remixed urban ideas, letting the production create the spacious atmosphere. The latest album "Character" which was released on STS9's hot 1320 records was self-produced by the band and received critical acclaim with it's vast, open feel and deep 808-driven grooves. The rest of the world can only watch and listen as these talented artists come of age and discover the depth of their 'Character'.
ft. DJ Logic, Freekbass & special guest Bernie Worrell (of P-Funk & The Talking Heads)

"Logic's smokin' beats, with Freekbass' funky basslines, is topped off with Molitz otherworldly keyboards."
The name Headtronics comes down directly from the King of funk himself, Bootsy Collins.
Band of the month at Live Music News and Review.
Interview at Home Grown Music Network.
The Church of Universal Love and Music held their annual Funk festival over the summer and it featured some of the greatest funk musicians touring right now. This year, Freekbass met up with Steve Molitz, keyboard player for Particle, Playin for Change, and Phil and Friends, and turntablist, DJ Logic. Freekbass and Molitz joined DJ Logic onstage for a crazy jam that did not focus on any particular song. The energy was so high and the vibes so good, the three decided that they needed to get together with more frequency, and have tentatively begun to get a band together.

In recent years he's been co-producing and mixing for Twisted Records, especially with founder Simon Posford. His first major contribution to Twisted was the record Hallucinogen - In Dub, on which he remixed six classic Hallucinogen songs. In May 2003 he released his own album, Blumenkraft, on Twisted. His work has also been featured in releases from the record label Liquid Sound Design (now known as Liquid Sound, run by Martin Glover), especially those compilations produced by Humphrey Bacchus during his time at the label. He followed up his debut album with a second solo effort, Skylon, in 2008 on Twisted Records.

Music is a collective language. It can bring a sense of community among strangers, regardless of language, nationality, or beliefs. It can provide the listener an environment for creative thought and unrestrained emotion. It can manifest the beauty of people and cultures who may be thousands of miles apart.
The music of Telepath strives to do all of this.

Over the past year, CO's Big Gigantic have become more than your average electronic act. With over 50,000 downloads within the first four weeks of their latest release on 1320 Records and selling out 75% of the venues on their first headlining tour, Big Gigantic is truly creating a name for themselves. One thing Dominic Lalli (Motet saxophonist/producer) is not afraid of is trying new things. Big Gigantic is Lalli's latest project that showcases an array of gripping compositions combining elements of a DJ and a live band setup. Lalli and drummer, Jeremy Salken, mix thoughtfully melodic ideas with pulsating dance tunes that are sure to energize the dance floor.

The Breakfast is a hard-hitting jazz rock experimental quartet whose music ranges from progressive rock to sonic landscapes. Since the group's inception 11 years ago the band has played over 1000 shows throughout the country, released 6 albums and is on the verge of releasing a 7th. The Breakfast's sound and energy are founded in the psychedelic but their music features some incredibly well-crafted song structures and melodies, showing the members' gifts as highly talented musicians. Indeed, original members Tim Palmieri (guitar) and Adrian Tromantano (drums) provide the distinguishing characteristics the band has thrived on from the beginning. The two are able to reach near-telepathic communication on stage, ripping through progressive shredding licks and jams without missing a beat. This is held together by the sonic glue of longtime, though newly re-added, keyboardist Jordan Giangreco, and supported from beneath by the jazz sensibilities of bassist Chris DeAngelis.

Pooling the collective talent and achievement of these five musicians creates a musical martial art not to be missed. Spawned in November 2009, these guys separately have practiced Kung Fu on their instruments throughout their lives and now join forces for a funk fusion dynamo that leaves the audiences brain's whirling and feet dancing.
Honoring their musical roots or inventing new music Kung Fu brings a lot to the table. They can play any style, rock it out, funk it up, solo or group improvise, sing, and basically entertain you with beautiful frequencies and ideas.

To some, it must seem like this young electronic producer came out of nowhere this year. Emancipator played his first live show in July 2009, opening for Bonobo at the Roseland Theater (cap. 1500). Since then, he's toured with Bassnectar, STS9, Pretty Lights, drawn crowds at festivals like Trinumeral and Symbiosis, and closed out Sound Tribe Sector 9's late night parties in Denver at the request of the band.
But those in the know have been following Emancipator since he self-released his first album, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, at the age of 19 in 2006. His agile melodies layered over headnodic, immaculately-produced beats captivated fans across the internet and across the world. "Soon It Will Be Cold Enough" was picked up by Japanese super-producer Nujabes, pressed in Japan and sold 5,000 copies in the first six months.

HiGHER ORGANiX is a power trio hailing from The Shire (Berkshire County, MA). They play an undefinable style that mixes dance rhythms, and electronic experimentation with a jam-rock sensibility and willingness to take it to new places every time. Higher Organix' repertoire includes anything from house, dub, rock, breaks, DnB, ambient, and everywhere in between. Higher Organix does not plan their sets. They completely improvise, sometimes retouching on old themes, or quoting some of their favorite songs in a DJesque manner. No matter what, you have to see it to believe it. They might be twisting your mind in the near future.

Formed as a musical brain child of Justin Aubuchon and Curt Heiny, Archnemesis (www.archnemesismusic.com) roots its sound in the self-coined term "Intelligent Electro-Crunk". Keeping to the true definition of the word, the musical "villain" of Archnemesis uses influences drawn from other projects they are involved in (Telepath, MO Theory) as well incorporating samples that range from timeless to modern day. By doing this, a sound is created that makes every night a unique musical experience. With their first album in the works and by keeping the approach of appealing to the masses with musical familiarity, Archnemesis is constantly gaining new young fans at every show and continually growing musically as they move forward.

Barreling out of the northern woods like a grizzly bear on speed, Lucid, the hardest working band in the North Country (Upstate NY and VT), careens across the musical spectrum as a V8 blend of genres emerge- from jazz to rock, honky-tonk blues to reggae.

With 2010 aimed at being their breakthrough year, keyboardist Andy Deller looks forward to gracing the country with a healthy dose of Adirondack soul and passion.
"Our sound is catchy yet eclectic. The songs get stuck in your head, and there is a very distinct tone," said Deller. "The influences and the styles we play are wide ranging. But always at the center of it all is a thick thread of rock tying everything together. Our music has a little something for everybody. Audiences all over are very appreciative. We get applause, we get hooting and hollering, and sometimes nakedness. They're always dancing."

Twiddle, a Vermont-based quartet, spins tall-tales over an intricate soundscape of Hi-def shred. Twiddle has started a frenzy on both coasts with complexities that conjure up Coltrane, Ranglin, and Zappa, yet still embracing the roots of jam-band traditions. Finally, a group of musicians who not only understand climactic build and release, but deliver their intricate compositions night after night to jazz purists and screaming fans, all at the same time. Twiddle is a sound that defiantly weaves and dodges through genres. It's three-dimensional music. You can see it from all sides, and even serve it to your guests. It's Twiddle. Tasty.

Their wide-ranging influences and collective writing practices make for interesting, fun, and danceable music. The result is a band that provides listeners with a good time and a memorable experience.

Timbre Coup is your favorite band. Setting out to provide listeners with an exciting mix of dance and rock, these 4 boys are quickly building a fanbase in the Northeast, playing shows as often as they can. Since the beginning of 2009, TC has shared the stage with The New Deal, U-Melt, Project/Object, Schleigho, the Brew, and Consider the Source, to name a few. Formed in the summer of 2007, TC was the brainchild of drummer Matt Pickering, who was looking to start writing with his younger brother Ben. Only 17 at the time, Ben was a bassist at heart but had been writing on guitar for the last year or so and was ready for a challenge…

If Beam&Deem were a perfume, and we were inclined to give you the recipe, it'd be broken down like this: 3 parts Electronica, 2 parts Trip-hop, 1 1/2 parts downtempo, a drop of dubstep, a hint of house, and ladle of electro. The fusion of those essences is then bolstered by a fixative of relentless experimentation and curiosity, and later mixed inside of two Apples. Beam&Deem, consisting of Zach Catarelli and Chris Coffey, is a fresh and innovative act that creates a multi-sensory experience, catapulting the listener into a soundscape where classical elements create a welcoming familiarity, but where the air is also tinged with unexpectedness. In an era where the evolution of music involves merging mind with technology, Beam&Deem offers a breath of life into the machine, generating a unique sound that will shake both your mind and your behind.

Toting the loaded description Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Funk, their sound is a melting pot of Middle Eastern scales, psychedelic jams, and a hard rocking rhythm section. Featuring Gabriel Marin on Fret-Less Double Neck Guitar, John Ferrara on Bass, and Justin Ahiyon on Drums/Percussion, the three musicians cite their influences as including The Bad Plus, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson and Tool—but a major source of their musical power can be attributed to a trip the band took to India, where they studied the complex tala (rhythm) of North India, and the micro-tonal scale structure and melodic ornamentations of South India. The trio have since brought their experiences back to the recording studio and to the stage. Guitarist Gabriel Marin, recently highlighted in Guitar Player Magazine, says, "Our music combines influences from Turkish, Bulgarian, North and South Indian styles with jazz and fusion, and then we filter it through our own heavy rock and psychedelic sounds and approaches."

They say it was impossible, techno junkies, rockers, ravers, and
sample-slayers living together peacefully. Psy-Trance and Hip Hop,
they're light-years apart. Rock, Breakbeat, DnB, and Dub-Step,
it just can't happen...
When these worlds collide, you get The Maniac All-Stars.
Maniac is defined as a person who has an excessive enthusiasm or
desire – "We are music Maniacs!" The Maniac All-Stars are the
collaborative efforts of two brothers Antonio "DJ Satisfaction (SAT)"
and Dennis "Mcfly" Gonzalez formed in 2007 as one of the internet's
leading remix duos. The independent production duo have placed, if not

rule book and do our own thing."

Just in from the funny farm, Mentally Ill has prepared to deliver you a mind-altering dnb set. An eight year patient of the tech 1200 program, Mentally Ill has gripped on to reality just long enough to figure out how to converse with turntables everywhere in order to manipulate the vinyl he spins with them. Thats right, VINYL! So strap on your helmets and tighten your straightjackets, the voices have told him it may be a bumpy ride.......or not.....but probably....maybe.....its hard to tell. Judge for yourself. Either way he's definitely committed.....or at least he will be again soon. Watch out for the men in white!!!
In the past he has broken out of countless mental wards to play in places such as N.Y.C., Syracuse and a number of other upstate NY locations. He has crossed state borders to play in CT, MA, VT and even made it out of the states and all the way to Montreal to share his insanity. Being from Albany he has played a key role in keeping the e.d.m. scene alive in the 518, by holding several weeklies and monthlies in the area over the years. He and his band of nutters on Massive Audio, which he is a co-founder of, brought you the Eidelon parties (aka-Haunted Castle Party). Artists he has shared the stage with include: Dieselboy, Freaky Flow, Mathematics, Breakage, Glue, Odi, I-Cue, Danny The Wildchild, Jackal & Hyde, Terravita, Psylab, Lotus, Jeff Bujak, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Digital Frontier, EOTO and The Pnuma Trio. Say word.

Leila – who in the past 3 years has accomplished what many dj's haven't been able to do in twice that time – is known for a rugged hard and dark style to her sets. It may not look like it, but that's how she earned the name the "Queen of Mean"! Her all vinyl sets definitely force the listener to dance while emphasizing the evil side of DNB.
Growing up in the middle of nowhere (Earlton, NY) Leila didn't hear drum and bass until she was in college. She quickly fell in love and new that's what she wanted to play. In 2006 she bought herself her first set of tables & a stack of records and began spending 8 hours a day teaching herself how to spin.
Within a month Leila had her first show and shortly after was asked to be part of DPIM Recordings. She released her first demo in only 6 months and it was passed onto legendary turntablist/DJ Jen Mas (NYC). Mas chose Leila as the winner of the title of "best up & comer female DJ" in 2007 & gave her a shot to play at Women on Wax. Leila's fame continued to grow and within the next year she won several other contests where party-goers got to choose which DJ's they wanted to hear spin and her continued success with those events led to her being asked to be part of Spread the Word Productions & Konkrete Jungle New Haven. She has not only played KJ New Haven, but was the first female DJ to play Konkrete Jungle Buffalo and Albany. She has also played the legendary Konkrete Jungle NYC, been a member of Konkrete Jungle Albany, second in command at Bass Camp Recordings and is currently helping to run DNBC (Drum and Bass Coalition) with longtime friend DJ Hokilla.

Blue Boy Productions is an audiovisual project specializing in intense bass heavy dance music that spans the genres of EDM, blending live instruments with samples and original productions in a way that allows for real improvisation and unrehearsed moments of creativity and spontaneity.

ELECTRONICAnonymous is the EDM brain-child of Jules Jenssen. 1/3 of underground dance-fusion power trio HiGHER ORGANiX , Jules has been playing music since he was 8 years old, first dabbling in piano, then embracing the drums as his musical voice. Heavily rooted in traditional band style rock music, (Floyd, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Phish, all his father's bands, etc..) Jules found electronic music as a pre-teen and immediately was drawn to carefully sculpted, evolving beats, throbbing bass, and euphoric synthetic sound design. Although he didn't start making electronic music for years, he continued to integrate the theory into his drumming and live band. In the summer of 2008, Jules dove head first into the world of EDM production and nocturnal sleep cycles, making everything from electro-house, to dubstep, to krunk - -& styles yet-unnamed. Having already shared the stage with OTT, Sub Swara, Bluetech, Dub War NYC and Psylab, to name a few, the anonymous might not be unknown for long...
Tucci has been dedicated to music for as long as he can remember. From making countless alternative mixtapes at age 10 to hosting a late night college radio show from 2003-2005, he has always had an ear for interesting, memorable music. One night in Manhattan years ago, Tucci accidentally eavesdropped on a serious DJ in a nearby club and interest immediately sparked in the direction of house and techno. Listening became producing which became DJing and now Tucci plays to packed clubs practically every weekend. Recently, Tucci has appeared alongside outrageous talent including: techno luminaries Stacey Pullen and John Acquaviva, Chicago tech house mainstays Orchard Lounge, Dr. Fameus (Allen Aucoin of the Disco Biscuits), Dubstep soldier Joe Nice (Dubwar NYC), NYC Residents Sleepy and Boo (Basic NYC) and the Philadelphia electronic rock of Brothers Past and MJ Project. Tucci enjoys production and remixing but puts his focus on finding and exposing the most powerful, tasteful and spirited dance music in the world by way of mixing tracks using Ableton Live. The last two years have seen Tucci picking up steam by the weekend. The interest and excitement generated by his recent sets in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Burlington, VT suggest a deep future.

Hailing from Concord, New Hampshire, JamAntics is a five-piece band that combines elements of rock, funk, pop and even bluegrass-- then jams it out. The members bring varied musical backgrounds into the mix, creating a unique sound. Lead singer Masceo spent years as a singer/songwriter before moving behind the drums, vacating the position of rhythm guitarist for Lucas Gallo who occasionally steps forward to act as lead singer on his own songs. Eric Reingold holds down the bass line while helping Masceo in the percussion section with beat-boxing or a hand-drum. Award-winning Celtic fiddler Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki puts on his funk hat to trade solos and harmonize melodies with Freeland Hubbard, lefty lead-guitarist of considerable prowess who, like Lucas, occasionally serves as lead singer on his own compositions. In their first nine months together, JamAntics has released a Demo EP, a Summer Sampler EP and a Fall Sampler EP, in addition to playing more than 70 gigs around New England, from the NH Statehouse to the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom. Their shows are comprised of mostly original music from an ever expanding repertoire, and usually include a creatively reinterpreted cover or two, always performed with high energy and a healthy sense of fun. Michael Witthaus of theThe Hippo, the Manchester, NH arts weekly, called JamAntics, "A lively musical stew that sounds like it took years, not months, to perfect," also saying, "Jamantics have settled into a cohesive camaraderie that's breathtaking to behold. They pass the ball around like a musical version of the Harlem Globetrotters." The Hippo recently declared JamAntics to be one of the "top five bands to make a mark in 2009."
Taking over the world, one gig at a time...
Moses & The Electric Company descended from the Funky Cosmos, establishing themselves in the Green Mountains of Burlington, Vermont. Their mission is to intelligently design a musical mixture binding the danceable grooves of funk with the climatic-intensity of post-rock. What results is a concoction of slappy-tappy bass, primal emotive guitar, time bending keyboard and energetic drumming. To translate: this music is perfect for love makin', booty shakin', bacon bakin', and Socratic discussions.
HPB (High Peaks Band) have been around since 2006.We started as a 6 piece Grateful Dead tribute band. We concentrated mostly on shows from the late 70's. The era when we felt the Dead were at their most creative and accomplished musically. HPB has seen its ups and downs. With Phriends coming and going due to lifes many curveballs! The core group has always been Mikey Dreads ( Bass), Lenny( rythym guitar/ vocals), and Rick (lead guitar/ vocals). These three have been playing together from HPB's conception and have become a three headed monster. Weaving delicate runs through thundering passages, the three main members have become able to complete the others' sentences on stage. Bob joined full time in the spring of 09 after filling in for us over the previous 2 years sporadically. Starting this year, HPB has added a number of original songs to their catalogue. Moving forward HPB plans on playing a healthy mix of Grateful Dead, Phish and originals. We will throw in some tasty nugs by Moe, Umphrees, Pink Floyd, Zappa, Velvet Underground, Traffic and anything else that is fun to play and dance to!!! So come on out the next time HPB comes to your town. You never know what we might play. Maybe a nice tight set of originals. Maybe a 30 minute DarkStar to open a second set. Maybe an all original set. Come on out and dance a little!!

Pia Mater formed in the fall of 2004 at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Since then they have been crafting great songs along with developing their improvisational prowess. The initial lineup of the band released it's first album, The Living Legends, on December 6th, 2008. The current version of Pia Mater is putting it's stamp on the Northeast music scene with it's strong songwriting, inventive setlists, and strong improv. The current quintet is relying on their strong funk and rock roots to drive their music, but finding ways to expand on that sound by incorporating progressive, electronic, and more intense vocal arrangements in it's songwriting and improv.

Seed has found a sound that blends the modern day psychedelic rock, with a funk/fusion of electronics and lengthy, intricate melodies. Seed songs are full of mixed-meter and powerful unexpected changes that keep the sound fresh and exciting. SEED is made up of: dynamic rhythm section Adam Smith and Mike Aubin(Circadian Rhythm), guitarists Chris West and Travis Pihlman(Skaliosis), and saxophonist Derek Joly(Circadian Rhythm). Playing extensively throughout Connecticut, the group has gained some very quick momentum and is branching out to great places and great events throughout New England.
Funked-up glitch-hop stomp trio 'lespecial' could be described as Les Claypool's bus crashing into J Dilla's studio, as ferocious slap bass collides with an advanced groove-ethic and rhythmic rub not found in your average festival circuit band. These guys have all studied deep into the ritualistic traditions of Afro-Cuban percussion, and this primitive human edge shines brightly through their complex arrangements and boundless improvisations. They prefer to throw guerilla shows and bring their music directly to the people, but can be found everywhere from outdoor music festivals to the downtown NYC experimental jazz scene. They are currently finishing up an album engineered by Alan Evans of "Soulive".
Positive Mental Trip is Luke Weiler-lead/rythm Guitar and Vocals, loops, djembe and other percussion, and sax, trumpet, bass, drums, organ, sitar, violin, oboe, steel drum, marimba, and all othern kind of crazy sounds created through synth guitar and orchestrated together through loops. The Aposoul has been writing rhymes/songs, producing instrumentals/beats, recording, and releasing original Hip Hop music, and most importantly, MCing (live performance) for the past 6 years. "As The Aposoul I see myself as a Messenger of Soul, someone who speaks from the heart about being a peaceful person in the world. As I have developed as an Artist my lyrics have become more and more 'conscious'. These efforts have allowed me to perform at the International Day of Peace (IDP) at the UN Headquarters in New York City, in front of lawmakers at Beacon Hill in Boston, as well as numerous summer festivals, youth events and other venues. Now living in New York City, and studying at the New School, I want to share my message of peace and empowerment, because I was not always one who lived in accordance with these things. During my time of growing up I struggled to realize that something amazing could be brought into the world from inside of me. When I started creating hip-hop, I was releasing from my self all of the negativity that was inside, and when that was complete, a new, sincerely positive view opened up, about love and true expression. A strong transformation had occurred with in me. Barriers were brought down to reveal my true voice, the voice that I had been searching for, but was before unaware of. Hip Hop became my way of being, my personal expression. I am experienced now in the realm of hip-hop, and I understand that music can generate great amounts of positive energy. It inspires people to realize their own dreams and opportunities that lie in every moment... eternal.

Wobblesauce has wobbled Boston venues such as Harper's Ferry (opening for Emancipator,) Great Scott, Wonder Bar, and Wadzilla Mansion. Mondo Gecko strives to make their events more than just concerts; their concern for ambiance is apparent as soon as you walk through the doors. Their black-lit merch booth, neon stickers and glow-in-the-dark Geckos have become visual signatures. Tapestries, mood lighting, and even smoke-filled bubble machines are common place. "We really try to play rooms that not only sound great, but look cool as well," says Eric. "If they don't look cool, we make 'em!"
The band also stresses the importance of community, and their "fans are family" motto is their modus operandi. Their road manager, their merch girls, their street team – they all started as fans. Shedding the old dichotomy of a band and its "fanbase", Mondo Gecko instead considers the audience part of the show. Live painting, interpretive dance, artistic photography, and of course live recording are not only allow but encouraged.
