It is with much disappointment that we must announce that The Big Up will be taking an unexpected hiatus this year. However, in the face of this disappointment, we maintain the position that sacrifices must be made in order to keep an eye on the bigger picture.

As a festival, we couldn’t have been happier with TBU 2011, and we have you, the fans and the family to thank for making it as magical as we all remember. The fact of the matter is that there are factors beyond our control that have forced us to make a very difficult decision.

Like many great festivals and events in history have had to do- we are taking this hiatus for 2012, so that we may come back stronger in 2013!

The Big Up was and is about letting yourself be taken by the current of our beautiful community and culture and enjoying every minute of the ride, not swimming against it. We all experienced something very special in the last two summers, and it will not be forgotten over the next one.

As an extended family was solidified in the woods, on the fields, and in front of the four stages at Sunnyview Farm, and as the last beautiful notes rang out when the sun began to rise that Sunday morning, it may have felt like the magic was coming to an end, however, it was just beginning of something greater to come.

Trust us when we say that we are a family and we aren’t going anywhere. The Big Up will continue to grow, as every long-lost stranger feels that magical moment when they become a piece of something greater than the sum of it’s parts.

With that in mind, we are already working on plans for The Big Up 2013, and we are very enthusiastic to have an opportunity for a head start on next year.

We look forward to sharing some Big Up moments with you over the next year as we reminisce of the memory of 2011 with the release of music downloads of memorable sets and a documentary DVD from TBU 2011.

We will be releasing music downloads from The Big Up 2011’s top performances available early spring 2012, and a DVD release in the summer 2012, highlighting memorable moments, interviews and B-rolls of footage throughout festival. In addition, Shireworks promises that there will be additional surprises in store throughout 2012. Over 70 musical acts from all over the world were brought together to provide live musical entertainment throughout the event. Headlining acts EOTO (one half of the String Cheese Incident featuring Michael Travis and Jason Hann), Tipper, Digital Tape Machine (featuring Joel Cummins and Kris Myers of Umphrey’s McGee), RAQ, Big Gigantic and Marco Benevento graced the stages during the festival.

In addition to the live entertainment, over a hundred arts collaborators joined hands to create an awesome visual landscape to compliment this year’s The Big Up festival theme: “Planet Earth Phones Home.” From large-scale art installations to exhibits and decorations, the imagery was a sight to behold. If the arts and live entertainment wasn’t enough, festival-goers could participate in any of the many organized activities during the festival from geocaching, yoga, showcasing their own talents in the talent show, cooking in the Big Chef Challenges, night sky watching, learning about organic gardening, foraging and taking workshops in health and wellness centered topics.

The combination of music, arts and activities seemed to resonate with this year’s The Big Up Music & Arts Festival-goers and the festival is gaining positive press attention from all over the country.

“We have had a truly overwhelming response from our festival attendees this year, the feedback we are receiving is coming in mass amounts and we are looking forward to continuing this positive momentum for our 2012 festival event,” says festival organizers Shireworks Productions.

Unfortunately,  our friends The Malah will not be able to perform at TBU for reasons beyond our control.  We are saddened that they won’t be bringing their musical stylings to TBU, but we are very excited to fill their slot with brooklyn-based producer, and Pretty Lights Music recording artist, Gramatik, (www.gramatik.net)

We don’t stop there either!!  We will also be welcoming Philadelphia’s Damn Right!  as well as Bang Bang, a new project featuring Todd Stoops, (RAQ, Kung Fu) on keys, and Scotty Zwang (Sonic Spank) on drums, to the lineup for the weekend.

There will be an arts & crafts vendor to provide arts & crafts workshops for children, adults and families.

The village will be our family and sober camping area, for those needing a more quiet setting to camp.

The year 2011 promises to be the festival’s biggest and best year yet.

The Big Up Festival 2011 Early Bird Ticket price are now available for $70.00 for a three-day pass. Early Bird Ticket supplies are limited and will go quickly. Once the Early Bird Tickets are sold, the ticket price will be adjusted to the normal advance rate of $90.00 for a three-day pass while supplies last.  The at gate ticket price will be $120.00. A limited number of day pass tickets will be made available at a later date.
